Step 5. Finding match funding
Introduction
European funding provided through Objective One can only meet a proportion of the cost of any project.
The exact proportion will depend on several factors, including the type of activity, but generally speaking the funds will meet between 5% and 50% of project costs (although there may be some exceptions). The remaining costs, therefore, have to be provided by match funding from other sources - which can be public or private sector, or both.

Advice
Although finding appropriate match funding is the responsibility of the applicant, there are a number of sources of advice on funding partners. General information is available through both the Government Office of the South West (see Objective One directory) or the Regional Development Agency (RDA) Truro office on 01872 240505.
Information on a wide variety of both funding and advice sources is available through the FACTFINDER booklet, details of which can be obtained by contacting 01872 322860.
Information on sources of grant aid for community projects is available through Cornwall Rural Community Council (CRCC), which can be contacted on 01872 273952 or by email: crcc@cornwallrcc.demon.co.uk
In addition, guidance on many national schemes - and contact details - can be found on the Department of Trade and Industry's website or by calling the DTI on 020 7215 2611.

Types of funding sources
Match funding for European grants made through Objective One can come from a wide variety of sources. These could include:
| • |
Funding through national schemes, including Government programmes and funds |
| • |
Grants from statutory bodies, such as local authorities |
| • |
Contributions from the voluntary sector, including donations from charities and trusts |
| • |
Contributions from the private sector |
| • |
Loans from organisations such as the European Investment Bank |
It is also worth noting that match funding does not just have to be in the form of financial contributions. It can also include donations in kind, such as contributions in the form of paid staff, volunteers, transport and accommodation.

Finding funding sources
It is not possible to give a comprehensive and exclusive list of all possible match funding sources for every type of project. On the one hand new funds may be set up, while on the other existing budgets may be used up. However, click here for a list that identifies a range of some current funding sources and the kind of work they fund.
For detailed information on these and other potential funds - as well as advice on suitability and eligibility - prospective Objective One applicants are advised to contact the Government Office of the South West (GOSW), one of the other sources of help identified above (see Advice), or the funding source direct.
