The team from left: Catherine Roberts, Iain Mackelworth, Paul Winterbone and Wendy Randle

Community groups now have a simplified route to access funding following the appointment of a Fund Team based at Cornwall Enterprise.

The team will administer and manage the new Objective One funded Community Futures Fund and Rural Key Fund, which have been designed to provide easy access to European and Government funding for community groups within Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. Features of the funds will include a simplified application process and a quick approval system.

The Fund Team will be headed by Catherine Roberts who managed the pilot Key Fund following which she has been working as the Fund Development Manager for Cornwall Enterprise.

Iain Mackelworth will be the Project Assessment Officer for the Rural Key Fund. Iain previously worked as the Finance Officer for VSO with a specific responsibility for managing a portfolio of contracts with large institutional donors.

Wendy Randle will be the Project Assessment Officer for the Community Futures Fund. Wendy has recently graduated in Business Studies from Bournemouth University.

Paul Winterbone will be the Administration Assistant for the Fund team. He has worked for the Prince’s Youth Business Trust, the Institute of Road Transport Engineers and the Benefits Agency.

The Rural Key Fund has been developed in association with the Rural Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Partnership. Funding has been secured from Objective One (European Regional Development Fund), South West of England Regional Development Agency, Cornwall County Council/ Cornwall Enterprise, the six District Councils, the Council for the Isles of Scilly and the Health Action Zone. It aims to provide funding for rural groups and organisations to improve the facilities and services in their local community. The maximum grant available is £30,000 to cover up to 90% of the total project costs, with the recipients raising the additional 10%. Projects must demonstrate economic benefits to their local community. A total of £1.3 million is available in grants over the next three years.

The Community Futures Fund includes funding from European Social Fund, Magnet Fund (Sport Action Zone/Sport England) Cornwall County Council/ Cornwall Enterprise and Cornwall Action Team for Jobs (Jobcentre Plus). It aims to raise skills, knowledge and employability of groups or individuals supported by organisations within the community and voluntary sector. The maximum grant available is £6,000 and applicants can receive up to 100% of the total project cost. A total of £400,000 is available over the next two years.

Anyone wishing to contact the Fund team should telephone Catherine Roberts on 01872 322869 or visit the Rural Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly Partnership website www.ruralcornwall.co.uk
