Olive magazine names Fifteen Cornwall 'Restaurant of
the Year'
'olive', the BBC's magazine for restaurants,
recipes and travel, has named Fifteen Cornwall their Restaurant
of the Year in the January edition which has hit news stands
across the country this week.
The amazing accolade follows a review in the magazine's
'pro vs. punter' column, when Gregg Wallace, presenter
of BBC 2's Master Chef Goes Large and BBC Radio 4's
Market Forces, and olive reader, Allan Ford, both dined at
Fifteen Cornwall and gave the restaurant on the beach at Watergate
Bay a combined score of 53 out of 60 – the highest score
of all of the restaurants reviewed in 2006.
Gregg Wallace praised Fifteen Cornwall's lamb ravioli
with sage and orange butter, charming staff and romantic atmosphere.
Reader reviewer Allan loved the sweet and succulent scallops,
and said the restaurant had the finest views in the country.
Polly Dent, Fifteen Cornwall General Manager is delighted
that the restaurant has received such an accolade from a national
consumer food and restaurant magazine: "Being named
as olive magazine's Restaurant of the Year is really
the icing on the cake of Fifteen Cornwall's amazing
first year. The award is a testament to the hard work and
talent of the team of trainee and professional chefs and our
wonderful front of house team who work together to make eating
at Fifteen Cornwall a really enjoyable and memorable occasion."
Head Chef Neil Haydock is equally proud of the restaurant's
recognition: "Fifteen Cornwall brings together a
great location, superb local ingredients and a social enterprise
to produce a passionate food experience which is much more
than the sum of its parts.
"I'm really proud of the journey that our
first intake of trainees have taken since the restaurant opened
in May – in seven months they've not only proved
to themselves and others that they have a bright future ahead
of them, but they've helped Fifteen Cornwall to become
the success that it is today. Becoming olive magazine's
restaurant of the year is the best Christmas present that
any of the restaurant team could ever have wished for."

Editor's notes:
Fifteen Cornwall opened on 18th May 2006 with an innovative
menu of the best seasonal and local produce, a relaxed atmosphere,
talented chefs and an incredible view over a beautiful two-mile
beach.
The restaurant is dedicated to the same inspirational social
enterprise goals as set out by Jamie Oliver and his team at
Fifteen London. The restaurant is giving 18 trainee-chefs
the once in a lifetime opportunity to turn their lives around
during its first intake of students.
All profits from Fifteen Cornwall go to the Cornwall Foundation
of Promise, whose purpose is the creation of fantastic career
opportunities for disadvantaged local young people, helping
them every step of the way to achieve their potential. The
restaurant also provides a valuable boost to Cornwall's
tourism industry and makes use of the abundance of high quality
local food producers in the region.
The project has received more than £1 million from
Objective One and the South West Regional Development Agency
(SWRDA), with additional support from Jobcentre Plus, the
Learning and Skills Council (LSC), Cornwall College, Cornwall
County Council, Restormel Borough Council, St Austell Brewery,
HSBC Bank, Barclays Bank and The Hotel and Extreme Academy,
Watergate Bay.
