Response to the South West Regional Development Agency (RDA)
announcement of £8million investment for Newquay Cornwall
Airport
Both the Objective One and Cornwall Business Partnerships
welcome the RDA's announcement of investment into Newquay
Cornwall Airport.
Carleen Kelemen, Director of the Objective One Partnership,
said: "I welcome this announcement by the RDA. The
further investment will maintain the momentum for further
development of Newquay Cornwall Airport.
"Both public and private sectors are committed
to the retention and expansion of a commercial airport for
Cornwall and the Isles of Scillies and this is a key element
in the infrastructure being built to create a more knowledge-based
economy.
"More than £13 million from Objective One
has already been committed to Newquay Cornwall Airport as
part of a raft of economy boosting measures that also include
the Combined Universities in Cornwall and high speed broadband
access."
Thelma Sorensen, chair of the Cornwall Business Partnership
(CBP), said: "As CBP chair and as a businesswoman
in Cornwall I have long been championing investment in Newquay
Cornwall Airport.
"A viable commercial airport is such an important
asset for a region and it will send a signal to businesses
everywhere that we can compete in today's global economy.
The RDA announcement of investment is very good news as not
only will jobs be created at the airport but spin offs will
add value to other businesses across the region."
