Cornish design goes outside
Five leading designer-makers from Cornwall will be showcasing
their innovative products at the Outdoor Collection show,
part of The Interiors Event, at the Birmingham NEC, January
21-24, 2007.
Hidden Art Cornwall and University College Falmouth have
collaborated to present Cornish design to an international
audience. The stand called 'Outside Cornwall'
will be a garden, specially designed by the Garden Design
Course at University College Falmouth, and will showcase products
and accessories for the outdoors by five members of Hidden
Art Cornwall.
Products being exhibited on the Outside Cornwall stand include:
decorative relief paving by Jethro Macey, knitted outdoor
cushions by 100 Metres, sculptural seating by Ben Barrell,
the award winning Birdball by Green and Blue and a unique
rolling summerhouse made from locally sourced green timber
by sixixis.
"This is a great chance for Cornish designer-makers
to promote their work to a trade audience of over 50,000,
and raise awareness for the high quality of design from Cornwall.
The chance for designer-makers to showcase products in a garden
of 100 sqm designed especially for their work by Garden Design
at University College Falmouth is quite an exceptional opportunity,"
said Jessie Higginson, Project Manager for Hidden Art Cornwall.
"This is a fantastic opportunity for staff and students
to collaborate with Hidden Art Cornwall at Outdoor Collection.
As gardens increasingly become venues for outdoor living there
is a strong need to embrace good design and craft to ensure
that these places are exciting, stimulating and memorable.
This is often best achieved through close collaboration between
designers, artists and makers. Cornwall is establishing itself
as a leading venue for these activities and the garden design
course at Falmouth is excited to be part of this growing initiative,"
said Richard Sneesby, Course Leader BA(Hons) Garden Design,
University College Falmouth. Outside Cornwall will be on stand
B30, Hall 7.
