Climate Change and Global Challenges: Shaping the Future
Lecture, Tremough Campus, Penryn, 7pm, 6 March 2007
The University of Exeter and the Met Office will bring some
of the UK's leading experts on climate change to the
Tremough Campus, Penryn, for a free public event on 6 March.
Professor John Mitchell, OBE, Chief Scientist at the Met Office,
will reveal the key findings about climate change and the
challenges we face in tackling it. A panel discussion featuring
academics from the University of Exeter will follow before
the debate is opened up to the audience.
"Cornwall is setting an example to the rest of
the country in establishing more sustainable ways of living,"
said Professor Keith Atkinson, Provost of the University of
Exeter's Cornwall campus. "Here at Tremough,
the University of Exeter offers a range of degree courses
that tackle these issues, including the UK's first undergraduate
degree in Renewable Energy and a Masters degree in Climate
Change and Risk Management. We are delighted to be welcoming
John Mitchell OBE and other distinguished guests to the Tremough
campus and hope that local people will join us for what promises
to be a fascinating evening."
This lecture is part of the 'Shaping the Future'
series, which is organised by the University of Exeter to
bring people together to discuss topical issues. Usually held
at the University’s Streatham Campus, Exeter, this is
the first event to be held at the Tremough Campus. The University
hopes to bring more events to its Cornwall Campus in the future.
This event is free, but booking is essential and limited
spaces are now available. To reserve your place, please email

The £100 million Tremough campus is a Combined Universities
in Cornwall initiative of which the University of Exeter and
University College Falmouth are two of the founding partners.
It is funded mainly by the European Union (Objective One),
the South West Regional Development Agency, and the Higher
Education Funding Council for England, with support from Cornwall
County Council. Set in 70 acres of countryside, but close
to the waterside towns of Penryn and Falmouth, the campus
offers a lively student community. The University of Exeter
is expanding its courses at the Tremough Campus to include
Politics, Law and History to its existing degrees in Mining
Engineering, Geology, Biology, Geography, English and Renewable
Energy.

of Exeter on 01392 262062 or email S.Hoyle@exeter.ac.uk.
The Objective One Programme for Cornwall and the
Isles of Scilly has invested in the Combined Universities
in Cornwall (CUC) project, both Phase 1 and Phase 2, through
the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and the European
Social Fund (ESF). The University of Exeter is a partner of
the CUC.
