EXCITING NEW IMPROVEMENTS TO LISKEARD RAILWAY STATION Liskeard Railway Station is set to benefit from £600,000 of new funding, including £129,000 from Objective One, to upgrade customer facilities, improve integration and make the station more accessible to members of the public. The exciting new scheme, which includes redesigning the
main building with new toilets, adding a bus shelter and a downside platform
shelter, is part of the Riviera Project, set up by the Cornwall Rail Development
Partnership to provide high quality facilities for rail travellers at
Cornwall’s stations.
Councillor Tony Powell, Caradon District Council’s Cabinet member with the Progress through Partnerships Portfolio, which includes transport, said: “We are delighted to see these improvements to facilities for rail travellers at Liskeard. “New car parking areas are already in place, and the latest changes to the station will create a quality public transport interchange that supports the town’s future development.” The additional funding, following on from improvement works completed in 1999, has been provided by members of the Riviera Project, including the Strategic Rail Partnership, Cornwall County Council, Caradon District Council, Rail Heritage Trust, Objective One, Wessex Trains, Railtrack, Devon and Cornwall Rail Partnership and Liskeard Town Council. Designs for the new project have been drawn up by architect Robert Allen, with work due to begin in Spring 2003.
