A Tribute to Professor Roland Levinsky
The Objective One Partnership would like to pay tribute to
Professor Roland Levinsky, valued Vice-Chancellor of the University
of Plymouth, who died on New Year's Day this year (2007).
A memorial service of music and words to celebrate the life
of Roland Levinsky will be held at 2.30pm on Friday 30 March
in St Andrew's Church, Plymouth. Carleen Kelemen, who
will be attending the service, said: "Professor
Levinsky played a key role not only at the University of Plymouth
and helped to set up a lasting legacy for the South West in
the groundbreaking partnership of Combined Universities in
Cornwall. His dedication and hard work will be sadly missed
by all, not least the Objective One Partnership."
Dr Ian Tunbridge, Executive Director of Combined Universities
in Cornwall (CUC) and former University of Plymouth Dean commented:
"Roland's commitment to widening participation
in university study was underpinned by a belief in education's
potential for transforming lives. He was the driving force
behind the creation of University of Plymouth Colleges as
a building block towards a broader confederation of academic
institutions reaching out into communities in the South West.
He had a vision of wider academic collaboration in which CUC
was an important component."
The University of Plymouth, in accordance with the Levinsky
family's wish, is setting up a Roland Levinsky Memorial
Fund which will be used to provide scholarships, studentships
or prizes for students, both undergraduate and postgraduate,
across the university.
