Open day a great success

Cornwall College Newquay threw open its doors to the public recently, when they held a higher education open day. The day was designed to give potential students an insight into the six foundation degrees offered by the College and included a tour of the campus and its facilities and visits to Newquay Zoo and Blue Reef Aquarium.

Ruth Martin, Programme Manager for Wildlife Education and Media, said: "Each foundation degree is a two year commitment, therefore holding open days like this allows everyone to get all the facts before making a final decision about which course they would like to study. The day was a great success and some of the students were interviewed for their chosen course there and then."

The College's open days also offer the opportunity for potential students to speak to current students and gain a real insight into student life and what happens on campus.

John Latham, Principal of Cornwall College, said: "Cornwall College Newquay has recently enjoyed substantial investment in new buildings and facilities from the Combined Universities in Cornwall initiative, part-funded by the Objective One European Regional Development Fund. Open days like these offer members of the public the chance to experience these new facilities first hand."

Following this success more higher education open days are planned, and the next is on Friday 1st June. For more information and to book your place please call 01637 857957. Information on all six foundation degrees will be available: Wildlife Education and Media, Animal Science, Surf Science and Technology, Rescue and Emergency Management, Marine Aquaculture and Zoological Conservation.
