First traffic to use section of new £93 million A30
Bodmin to Indian Queens dual carriageway
The first section of the £93 million Bodmin to Indian
Queens road improvement scheme is due to open overnight on
9-10 May.
The six kilometre (approximately four mile) section between
Indian Queens and Victoria will open to traffic in advance
of the full completion of the works in July.
Highways Agency project leader Andrew Alcorn, said: "While
we switch over from the old road to the new one the traffic
management changes will have an impact on the traffic flow
and we would ask for drivers' patience and co-operation while
this is carried out."
A 1.2km contraflow will remain in place at the bottom of
Highgate Hill near Indian Queens to allow workers to complete
construction of the new westbound carriageway, along the line
of the existing road.
The main changes for drivers to note are:
| |
At the Victoria Interchange the roundabouts and slip
roads at either end of the bridge over the new road will
become operational. This will allow entry westbound and
exit eastbound to the new section of the A30. Since this
intersection was partially opened in April 2006, the roundabouts
have been restricted to through traffic only and drivers
are warned they will now operate as roundabouts and must
give way to the right. |
| |
There will be no through route on the existing road
across the moor. Through traffic will now avoid Victoria,
Roche Cross (the height restriction at Iron Bridge) and
the Castle-an-Dinas turn. |
| |
The village of Roche, and the local businesses, services
and business parks along the old road will be accessed
by both eastbound and westbound traffic from the Victoria
interchange. |
| |
All westbound traffic approaching the A30 through Roche
will now need to turn right onto the existing road and
join the new A30 at the Victoria Interchange. |
| |
A temporary 40mph speed limit will be in place at both
ends of the new stretch of road. The national speed limit
will apply on the new dual carriageway. |
At Innis Downs the existing contraflow will be removed later
in May, although the coning for single file traffic in lane
one westbound will remain until the road opens in July.
An additional road closure will take place on 11 May for
eight weeks on the unclassified road past the Castle-an-Dinas
hill fort. This will allow construction of the new road layout
at the existing junction with the A30 in the middle of Goss
Moor.
Additional temporary signage will be in place during this
period but drivers are asked to take particular care and to
allow a little extra time for their journey until they become
familiar with the route changes.

Before using a mobile, find a safe place to park. Never stop
on the hard shoulder of a motorway except in an emergency.
Make sure it's safe and legal before you call.
For more general information about the Highways Agency and
its work, visit the Highways Agency website www.highways.gov.uk,
or telephone the Highways Agency Information Line on 08457

Safe driving at roadworks
During 2006 two workers were killed and 19 seriously injured
in the course of their work on Highways Agency roads. For
the safety of all road users and roadworkers, when you are
approaching roadworks:
* Keep within the speed limit - it is there for your safety.
* Get into the correct lane in good time - don't keep switching.
* Concentrate on the road ahead, not the roadworks.
* Be alert for works' traffic leaving or entering roadworks.
* Keep a safe distance - there could be queues in front.
* Observe all signs - they are there to help you.
