Fifteen Cornwall wins again
The Objective One project Fifteen Cornwall has received yet
another accolade – winning the 'Best Project of the
Year Under £2 million' in the Michelmores and Western
Morning News' Commercial Property Awards.
This award comes hot on the heels of March's 'Best
Location Readers' Award' in the OFM (Observer Food Monthly)
Waitrose 2007 Food Awards.
Fifteen Cornwall received Objective One investment via the
European Regional Development and European Social Funds. The
ERDF (more than half a million pounds) was for the capital
build, transforming the former Beach Hut Bistro into Fifteen
Cornwall. The ESF has been invested via Jobcentre Plus and
the Learning and Skills Council to train young people from
targeted areas of Cornwall to be chefs.
The Western Morning News said of Fifteen Cornwall, which
has a breathtaking view of Watergate Bay: "This
former beach cafe was transformed by an impressive feat of
engineering and construction into a statement restaurant,
the latest in the Jamie Oliver stable and one dedicated to
training young chefs from a variety of backgrounds.
"It has had a very positive impact on the South
West and has put Watergate Bay on the map, with a £60
million contribution to the Cornish economy forecast over
the next ten years."
Andrew Johnston accepted the latest award on behalf of Midas
Group, which carried out the building contract.
Carleen Kelemen, Director of the Objective One Partnership,
said: "This award yet again underpins the Objective
One aim of developing high quality, striking buildings to
inspire those in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly and generate
business."
Fifteen Cornwall also uses several sustainable initiatives
and the interior, created by Absolute Design of Falmouth,
features reclaimed walnut. The project is committed to reducing
food miles and promoting local and regional supply chains
and more than 80% of food is sourced locally. Environmental
features include wind turbines; high-grade insulation in the
roof, walls and floor; a grey water system to capture and
store water from the roof which is then used to flush toilets;
a unique 100% LED lighting system that is fully dimmable meaning
that 80% of electricity normally used through lighting can
be saved; a 100% recycling policy on goods that can be recycled
such as glass, cardboard etc. Fifteen Cornwall has set-up
a special recycling depot and developed a 'recycle bubble'
pod carrier to transport all of the waste to this depot.
