Community arts specialist, Francois Matarasso, to deliver
public lecture at University College Falmouth
Leading writer, researcher and consultant, Francois Matarasso,
who has worked widely in community arts and on the impact
of participation in the arts, is to deliver a public lecture
on Tuesday 12 June 2007 at 6pm in the Lecture Theatre at University
College Falmouth's Woodlane Campus in Falmouth.
The title of his lecture is 'Meanwhile an audience,
quite unaware: the inevitable importance of the arts in society'.
It will consider the central, growing, but still misunderstood
place of the arts in people's lives today.
It will also look at the current economic and social importance
of the arts, and argue that their influence is more profound
than is often acknowledged. It will conclude that effective
cultural policy needs to recognise its own limitations in
trying to shape an environment in which the arts and society
can flourish.
This talk marks the first in a new series of high profile
lectures at University College Falmouth by key figures from
the creative industries.
This event is free, but tickets are required to gain admittance.
Tickets are available for collection from The Poly Box Office
in Church Street on a first come, first served basis, or can
be posted to a home address at no cost. For further information,
