Angling 2000 - great prospects for
2003 season!
Angling 2000, the Rivers Trusts immensely successful,
flexible angling day permit scheme supported through Objective
One and the Cornwall Rivers Project expands further into Cornwall
for 2003 with a new choice of hitherto un-fished beats and
branches out to include coarse fishing for the first time.
After last years excellent results, the rods and participating
farmers are eagerly looking forward to this season. The number
of fishing beats in the scheme for 2003 has increased
to 20, with eight new beats included.
As well as offering angling access to some wonderful natural
stretches of river it has also provides a welcome boost to
farm incomes and a number of farm B&Bs in each area
adding value and extending the season. Anglers can buy books
of ticket tokens from the Rivers Trust or from local tackle
shops and then using the Angling 2000 booklet select a beat
to fish for salmon, sea trout or grayling.
Once at their chosen location the angler leaves the appropriate
number of tokens in the collection box next to the parking
area and proceeds to fish the waters. The income from the
scheme goes mainly to the farmers or beat owners with a small
amount retained by the trust to contribute to printing and
marketing expenses.
Angling 2000 allows farmers and riparian owners to get a
modest income from their river beats and helps provide a return
for the effort they have put into farm river restoration and
fisheries improvement. Angling 2000 also provides local opportunities
for youngsters and others to fish in their parish through
the controlled access offered by the scheme as well as valuable
diversification opportunities for on farm and other local
farm based tourism enterprises
