Bluesail Fish weighing and filleting Obective One grant award

Steve Farrar, Managing Director of Bluesail Fish Company in Looe has received an investment from the Objective One Fisheries programme of over £9,400 and £1,350 of DEFRA grant. The investment will be used to buy new equipment to weigh and sort the locally caught fish once it is landed and fillet the fish ready for sale to wholesale merchants in the UK and abroad.

The new machinery is linked to a computer and will weigh and sort the fish automatically. The company will be able to ensure the fish is traceable and there will be less handling and less time the fish is out of ice resulting in a higher quality product.

The filleting station will help Bluesail to expand their range of fish products. A purpose built workstation will be provided so that the fish can be filleted hygienically, as the waste is kept separate from the fillet.

With this new equipment the business can meet the high demands of the customers such as restaurants and supermarkets who want to know where their fish has come from and to ensure the fish is of high quality.
