Graduates meet their future at Tremough

On Wednesday 14th November, the Tremough campus at Penryn will host the Combined Universities in Cornwall's (CUC) Graduate Careers Fair – 'Meet Your Future 2007'. The vast seminar and lecture space at the £55m campus will be opened up to create one large exhibiton hall, housing a diverse range of national and local employers, voluntary gap year organisations, postgraduate education providers and self employment advisors.

In addition to the 53 exhibitors' stands at the careers fair, a number of presentations will be available for students and graduates to attend, delivered by speakers who are experts in their fields. A wide selection of topics is offered, from advice on teaching placements to careers in conservation and development, freelancing in television, getting a job as a graphic designer and working as a professional contemporary artist. Other presentations will give specific information on graduate level opportunities such as the CUC's graduate placement scheme, Unlocking Cornish Potential.

Jon Christie, Head of Careers at the Tremough campus encourages as many students and graduates as possible to attend, explaining, "There will be a wide spectrum of exhibitors actively looking to recruit and assist people with their futures- the event is free, we even have buses bringing students from campuses across Cornwall. This is what the expansion of higher education is all about- firstly giving people the expert knowledge and skills and then the opportunities to take that out into the workplace and be the best they can be."

The event runs from 11am - 4pm and full details can be found on the website www.cuc.ac.uk/careers.

For further information please contact Emma Stallard, Combined Universities in Cornwall PR and Communications Officer, on 07896 042524 or email emma.stallard@cuc.ac.uk.

Editor's notes:

The Combined Universities in Cornwall is a dynamic and visionary partnership that is one of the driving forces behind Cornwall's renaissance. This partnership combines the Universities of Exeter and Plymouth, University College Falmouth, The Open University, The College of St Mark & St John, and the Peninsula Medical School, with Cornwall's Further Education colleges - Cornwall College, Truro College and Penwith College. It aims not only to provide the students of the future with more choice and greater opportunities, but also to boost the economic fortunes of the region for the benefit of one and all.

The CUC initiative has been invested in by the Objective One Programme for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, the South West Regional Development Agency, Cornwall County Council and the Higher Education Funding Council for England.
