Cornish pharmaceutical company named as one of the UK’s top entrepreneurial businesses

Sarah and Jonathan Trethowan of TRACFast growing Cornish regulatory affairs company TRAC Services has been named as one of the UKs top entrepreneurial businesses at a national awards ceremony in London.

Camborne-based TRAC, which was launched in 2001 by Jonathan and Sarah Trethowan, was one of only 20 businesses in the UK, and the only one in Devon and Cornwall, to be named as the winner of a BT Business Essence of Entrepreneur award at London’s OXO Tower.

The event is a celebration of the achievements of UK small businesses that have demonstrated exceptional dedication and have found new directions to succeed in business with the help of technology. It is the latest in a string of awards for the company, which was recently named Business of the Year at the Cornwall Business Club Awards.

TRAC Directors Sarah and Jonathan, who were in London to receive the award, said they were overwhelmed that the company had been named one of the top 20 entrepreneurial businesses in the UK.

“To achieve this recognition, and be one of only 20 businesses in the UK to win this award is something we are extremely proud of and is a great honour for us, coming so quickly on the back of the Cornwall Business Club Award.

“Communication is vital to our company, enabling us to keep our finger on the pulse of what is going on within the regulatory affairs industry and liaise with our clients and relevant governmental regulatory agencies across the world, so to have our achievement recognised at a national level is fantastic,” said Sarah.

“A decade ago, our business would not have succeeded in Cornwall. However the development of technology has not only enabled us to locate the business in Cornwall but has been one of the main platforms for our success, something the judges recognised,” she added.

A panel of experts, including John Dunsmure from the British Chambers of Commerce, Matt Thomas, Editor of Startups.co.uk, William Berry, founder of accommodationforstudents.co.uk and James Lohan from boutique hotel guides Mr and Mrs Smith, were instrumental in selecting the final 20 entries.

The judges said: “TRAC Services Limited are already providing a valuable link between pharmaceutical companies and government regulatory agencies by being able to work smoothly with big corporations from their base in Cornwall.”

BT Business says that the winning companies are proof that the UK is brimming with entrepreneurial talent and delighted to honour and applaud these small businesses.

To celebrate their success, TRAC Services had the essence of their business captured by renowned photographer Perou, who is acclaimed for his individualism and unique perspective on the world. His images of TRAC formed part of an exhibition promoting the BT Business Essence of Entrepreneur campaign, which ran at London’s OXO Tower until early December.
