Maritime port nets website funding
Looe, Polperro & District Chamber of Trade and Commerce
have just secured £27,000 funding from the Objective
One Rural Key Fund to set up a definitive website for Looe,
www.LooeCornwall.com.
A small dedicated team of Chamber members including Edwina
Arkell, John Charnock, Beryl Tregear and Brett Pearn have
worked tirelessly over the last three years, preparing the vision
and making the funding bid.
The Chamber is grateful for the invaluable assistance of
Michael Hinks of South East Cornwall Regeneration Partnership
(the Objective One facilitation team for South East Cornwall)
and the Rural Key Fund Team at Cornwall Enterprise.
Former Chairperson of the Chamber Edwina Arkell said, "When
elected chair in 1999, one of my main aims was for Looe and
District to have a high quality web presence.
The monies secured will enable the town to produce a site
that will be a central information point for visitors and
residents alike, allowing EASY access to information about
Looe, events and accommodation.
The high quality site aims to portray the most attractive
features of the historic port and the surrounding rural areas
of Polperro, Downderry, Seaton, Hessenford, Duloe, Nomansland.
Subjects covered will include maritime and rural leisure
- fishing, sailing, boating, walking, history, culture and
arts, natural environment, built environment, shops, restaurants,
pubs, entertainment, essential services and facilities eg
disabled facilities and access. A photographic archive and
video sequences are also planned in the future.
The site will also act as a hub linking other sites within
Caradon and Cornwall. Emphasis will be given to developing
the out of season market and attracting overseas visitors.
In addition to the Chambers substantial financial contribution,
the main partners who have assisted with the match funding
include: Looe Town Council, Barclays Bank PLC, Looe Harbour
Commissioners, East Looe Town Trust, Looe Town Forum, Looe
Development Trust and central to the project, the Looe Community
Computer and Business Centre which is also an Objective
One project.
The site will include a dedicated Chamber of Commerce area
accessed by password where members can offer mutual support,
a bulletin board and opportunities for networking. Chamber
members will receive a free line entry, with the opportunity
for an enhanced presence and links to their own site.
It is hoped the majority of the site will be on-line before
the start of the main tourist season. The town project management
group are inviting applications to tender for the four contracts
to produce the site:
1. Site sales
2. Marketing and promotion
3. Writing/collation of content
4. Technical updating
If you would like to receive the tender documents or for
