TREHUMMER ENTERPRISE PARK
NEW BUSINESS UNITS IN NORTH CORNWALL

Objective One funding is to help create desirable business accommodation in an attractive rural location near Egloskerry in North Cornwall. The £569,499 project is to receive £113,900 from the Objective One European Agricultural Guidance and Guarantee Fund (EAGGF) with a similar sum being provided by DEFRA.

Redundant farm buildings at Trehummer Farm are to be converted to eight or nine separate units of business workspace in an area where, as evidence suggests little accommodation is currently available. It is anticipated that the project could help generate up to 20 jobs and provide space for local businesses. It is recognised that lack of suitable premises is one of the principal barriers to business growth in the area.

The buildings will be subject to extensive refurbishment without radically altering their external character so that their historical and landscape value will be preserved. It is intended to convert the premises into a total of 600 square metres of workspace, split into eight or nine units of between 48 and 97 square metres set around a pedestrian courtyard. Some of the smaller units will be specifically targeted at new business and it is hoped that this will provide much-needed accommodation for expanding small businesses often looking to move up from home-based premises.

Trehummer Farm is a 419 acre working farm owned by Mr and Mrs Uglow and the project will also assist in the restructuring of the farm business and sustaining agricultural activity at the farm for the foreseeable future. Gareth Rowe of Stags Chartered Surveyors, who specialises in advising on farm diversification and rural development projects, has been closely involved in preparing Mr and Mrs Uglow's bid for European funding.

The project has received financial backing from DEFRA as well as the European Agricultural Guidance and Guarantee Fund as part of the Objective One programme, Regeneration North Cornwall, North Cornwall District Council, Cornwall County Council, Business Link, Stags Chartered Surveyors, and Trewin Design Partnership have also supported the project.
