Carnkie Community Institute looks
to the future
The Committee of the Carnkie Community Institute is celebrating
success after securing investment for the regeneration of
the former Men's Institute. The Committee, who have been
assisted in their application by the Objective One North Kerrier
Regeneration Team, have been offered investment from The Lottery,
The Countryside Agency, Carn Brea Parish Council, Kerrier
District Council, Cornwall County Council and the Single Regeneration
Budget towards the development of a new building in the village.
The new Institute will provide a games/youth room, a social
club, snooker club, pool and darts, as well as extending their
current provision to incorporate ICT training, rooms for hire
and facilities for all ages. The Committee has the support
of 60 current members and the interest of outside agencies
including Social Services and Link into Learning who wish
to use the new high quality facilities upon completion.
Carnkie Community Institute have worked closely with Carn
Brea Regeneration Advisory Committee and the North Kerrier
Regeneration Team, both of whom are working on a number of
schemes across the wider area. Scott James, Community Regeneration
Officer for Carn Brea, said that 'This is a key success
for the local community, and with the development of facilities
and services in rural communities such as Carnkie, it shows
that there is a strong commitment to the future of the area'
The AGM of the Carnkie Community Institute was held on Wednesday
21st May, and the large turnout of members was delighted with
the news of the investment success.
