Prospects and Prosperities revealed:
results of major new research into the future of the Cornish
food and drink industry announced
The results of a major new research project called 'Prospects
and Prosperities: exploring the potential of the Cornish food
and drink industry', are to be revealed at the Royal Cornwall
Show in Wadebridge by Cornwall Taste of the West and Exeter
University's Centre for Rural Research.
The research - a partnership project between the Objective
One funded Cornwall Taste of the West and the Cornwall Agricultural
Council - is thought to be the first regional food and drink
review of its kind in the UK, and goes into unprecedented
detail. As well as investigating the state of food production
and processing in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, the study
also examines existing and emerging UK markets and cross matches
the two, revealing the gaps and matches between national consumer
demand and regional supply.
It is expected the results of this research will have a major
impact on the development and growth of the food and drink
industry in the region, including influencing what foods are
produced, how they are processed, the structure of sector
partnerships and the promotion of Cornwall and its food and
drink products as a whole.
There will be a breakfast presentation to launch the findings
of the research project, with speakers:
Professor Michael Winter, Director of the University
of Exeter's Centre for Rural Research
Ruth Huxley, market intelligence manager for Cornwall
Taste of the West
Both will be available for interviews and photography following
the presentation. More detailed press information will be
distributed at the event.
