Jobcentre Plus and Objective One
a perfect match
Jobcentre Plus has secured £3.4 million pounds of investment
from the Objective One European Social Fund, to support a
wide range of projects across Cornwall, helping jobless people
move closer to employment.
The first projects to receive investment will be delivering
a range of activities and support in the community.
The projects will be delivered by a variety of organisations
and groups from the Community and Voluntary sectors, statutory
bodies, training providers and Local Operational Partnerships.
Each project will identify the specific problems people face
which prevent them from starting work and helping them to
overcome these barriers.
Jobcentre Plus ESF Manager Jacki Williams is delighted by
the diverse nature of the projects. "There are a variety
of different initiatives which go some way to addressing the
individual needs of jobseekers and developing new partnerships
within Cornwall."
Jacki continued, "As a direct result of these projects
an additional 1900 jobless people can now look forward to
receiving more help. It is anticipated that 1400 people will
be in work or involved in employment related training after
accessing this support.
"Having launched a successful first round of tendering
in November 2002 we are now seeking further proposals from
organisations to deliver projects that:
|
Enhance the employability of people, |
|
Promote social inclusion and target support for deprived
and rural communities |
|
Provide tailored recruitment and retention support
to SME's." |
Carleen Kelemen, Director of the Objective One Partnership,
said: "The Objective One Programme is investing millions
of pounds across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly to help
people access new opportunities for training and employment.
Our investment in a range of schemes through Jobcentre Plus
means the money will be targeted where it is needed most."

Editor's notes:
Jobcentre Plus has been approved as an ESF
Co Financing Organisation for the Cornwall and Isles
of Scilly Objective One Programme
Co-financing means channeling both Objective
One investment and the necessary match funding to organisations
in a single stream. This will bring greater co-ordination
and targeting of provision, and ensure investment adds more
value to the delivery of government programmes.
Organisations have been chosen as a result
of extensive consultation with a wide range of key partners,
voluntary and community organisations to deliver projects
that:
|
Enhance the employability of people and groups who
are disadvantaged in the labour market |
|
Promote social inclusion and target support for deprived
and rural communities |
|
Provide tailored recruitment and retention support
to SME's |
