Cornwall Neighbourhoods for Change
(CN4C) opens £10,000 community facility in St Ives
On Saturday 12 July, Cllr Harry Isaacs, the mayor of St Ives,
will open CN4Cs new £10K facility at Penbeagle,
St Ives. Unit 7B is a community building with a difference.
It will provide a workspace for a diverse group of organisations
and projects, each with their own area of activity, but all
working in partnership with CN4C.
CN4Cs community operations director, Tarn Lamb, explained: This is a great example of the way CN4C can invest in
the community to make a real difference for the people who
live on estates like Penbeagle. All the groups who use Unit
7b are doing great work in their own right, but by bringing
them together under one roof they are able to share resources,
experiences and expertise - so that everyone gets a better
deal.
After cutting the ribbon to open the Unit, the mayor and
mayoress will have an opportunity to look around the building
and meet some of the people who will be using it. Designed
originally as a workshop unit, Unit 7b has been converted
to include a community room on the ground floor, and an office
space above.
The first groups to work there are:
Community Learning Works
providing positive learning experiences to help people back
into learning
Between the Years working
locally with the St Ives Reminiscence Project to bring people
of different ages together to learn new skills and develop
relationships across the generations
P-CANE and Ayr Action Group
working from a proper community base rather than a volunteers
living room
CN4C is a tenant-led community development organisation creating
real and sustainable change by addressing the needs and desires
of social housing communities through partnership and participation.
