"WILD TRANSFORMATIONS' Twelve young mothers from Penzance have produced their own unique calendar featuring photographs of themselves and their children. An exhibition of the photographs opens to the public from Wednesday 4 December at the Sure Start Lescudjack Centre. The group worked on the project throughout the summer. Each young woman chose a theme for her special photograph, and a location in the Penzance area. Settings range from romantic meadows, to a gypsy caravan and there's even a couple of little devils complete with tiny horns. However, the young mothers featured didn't simply pose for the pictures, but were involved in all aspects of producing the calendar. Project worker, Julie Deal, explained: "WILD offers support, learning and development opportunities for young mothers, young fathers and their children throughout Cornwall. This particular group all live in Penzance where the local WILD programme is funded by Sure Start Lescudjack, part of the government initiative working with families who have children under-4. The whole exercise is a great example of just how much can be achieved by working together. "The young women wanted to produce a calendar with positive images of themselves and their children. The idea to call the calendar 'transformations' came from the group creatively transforming their own images for the photos and symbolising how we all can make transformations happen in our lives." The project has been co-ordinated by WILD, and made possible by a grant from the Objective One project Penwith Pathways to Employment – a partnership project between Cornwall Neighbourhoods for Change (CN4C) and JobCentrePlus which also helps individuals to develop a positive outlook and take their first steps towards training and employment. Additional funding has come from the Neighbourhood Renewal Unit, and Millennium Volunteers. 'WILD Transformations' is launched on Wednesday 4 December at the Sure Start Lescudjack Centre in Penzance from 16.00 to 18.00, and the photographs will remain on display until the end of January . The Centre is open to the public from 09.30 to 16.30 Monday to Friday, but will be closed from 23 December until 3 January inclusive. Copies of the calendar are available from the Centre in exchange for a donation to WILD, with the proceeds going towards funding a similar project next year.
