£1.4 million to attract new investors to Cornwall
Cornwall is to benefit from a new £1.4 million campaign
to attract high quality businesses following the approval
of an Objective One bid by Cornwall Enterprise to be jointly
funded by Cornwall County Council and Europe.
'In Cornwall You Can' is designed as a red carpet service
to target and attract inward investment in key sectors through
a co-ordinated one stop service for businesses. The service
will bring together all marketing and support activity for
inward investment to promote a clear and positive image of
Cornwall as a place to do business. An Ambassadors' scheme
to engage influential advocates for Cornwall both inside and
outside Cornwall will also be established.
The new programme aims to attract 78 new high quality businesses
to Cornwall, creating 780 new jobs and injecting £23.4
million into the economy over the next few years. It will
also support activities towards the development of key business
sectors such as creative industries, emerging technologies,
ICT and other hi-tech clusters.
'In Cornwall You Can' has been developed to work in close
liaison with Business Link, the South West Regional Development
Agency, the Combined Universities in Cornwall and the range
of other business support initiatives which are available
in Cornwall. The programme will be led by Danielle Atkins
who has recently been appointed as Inward Investment Manager.
Danielle previously worked as a business consultant to television
production company Sprout Media. This followed a successful
career at PricewaterhouseCoopers Management Consultancy as
Senior Marketing Manager for Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
Here she planned and implemented cross territory marketing
strategy in 35 countries. She has a broad experience in marketing
communications with specialist skills in e-business and internet
marketing.
John Berry, Managing Director of Cornwall Enterprise said,
"Over the last few years, key economic projects such
as the Eden Project and the National Maritime Museum Cornwall
have successfully raised the profile of Cornwall. This project
now seeks to promote Cornwall as a great place to run a business
and, particularly, to attract those specific businesses that
provide high quality jobs and incomes.”
Nick Blandford, Business Enterprise Manager at Cornwall Enterprise
said, "In the past year, Cornwall has pulled out
all the stops to gain two major inward investments into the
county - Tripos Receptor Research in Bude and Borders Books
at St Columb. It was possible to secure these major investments
by working closely with the South West Regional Development
Agency, the District and County Councils, Business Link and
Cornwall Enterprise. We are looking to implement this partnership
approach to attract a number of key new investments to Cornwall.”
