Visitors from Hungary learn about
help for jobseekers
A delegation from the Hungarian equivalent of Jobcentre Plus
is near the end of a 2-week spell in the South West. Their
visit was aimed at giving them an insight into the facilities
available for people who are trying to get back into employment.
Their programme included finding out about the services of
Jobcentre Plus itself, and also visiting many of the companies
contracted to work with Jobcentre Plus, who handle re-training
for customers, or guide them in some other way towards starting
work.
Two full days were spent in Cornwall with Cornwall Jobcentre
Plus Objective One European Social Fund (ESF) Manager, Jacki
Williams. Jacki said: "We planned a full itinerary for
the delegates so that they could see some of the innovative
ways Cornwall Jobcentre Plus helps Jobseekers to overcome
their barriers to employment. Funding from Objective One helps
Jobcentre Plus to widen the ways it can offer help, allowing
more jobseekers to move towards supporting themselves through
work.”
Visits were made to Access Training at St Austell and DMT
training at Bodmin. At Access Training the delegates met a
number of the partner organisations that work alongside Jobcentre
Plus, providing a service for Jobseekers and engaging them
in training and other activities, which will help move them
towards work.
One of the delegates, Janos Baksa, said, "We came here
to learn about the Employment System and to see how the European
Social Fund adds value to the mainstream services Jobcentre
Plus provides. We have enjoyed the visit and will take back
many useful ideas to support us when Hungary joins the EU
in May 2004.”
