South West Pesca funders recruit new project officer

South West Pesca Ltd, who assist the fishing industry to secure FIFG grants, has a new addition to the team.

Jon Lansley is the new Project Officer and has taken over from Spike Searle. Jon has a broad background in fisheries and is an ex fisherman who worked on various vessels based in Newlyn. Since then he has worked as a fishery officer in Scotland, EU observer on the Grand Banks, in fisheries research for SFIA, England and in fisheries development in Africa.

Jon has degree in Fisheries Studies from Plymouth University and is currently reading MSc Geographical Information Systems and Fisheries Management at the University of Portsmouth.

Jon's role at South West Pesca will be to develop fisheries projects so that they can benefit from EU funding. South West Pesca assist fishermen, fish processors, merchants and the ports in filling in the forms, writing business plans and providing the information required to submit an application to Defra. South West Pesca are involved throughout the whole process of submitting an application and will help right until the completion of the project. Clare Leverton Programme Manager of South West Pesca added: "With his practical fishing experience Jon is an excellent recruit to the team. He is already working on project ideas put forward by the Fisheries Task Force such as dealing with fish waste and a Resource / Information Centre.”
