CPR Regeneration moves to CompAir
site to bring 60 new jobs to Tolvaddon
The urban regeneration company for Camborne, Pool and Redruth
is vacating its offices so that they can be used to create
60 new quality jobs in Camborne.
CPR Regeneration will relocate from the Tolvaddon Energy
Park to the former CompAir Holman site on Tuesday April 13,
as part of a deal to set up the regional headquarters of a
new Government service at Tolvaddon.
Consumer Direct is a £30 million national initiative
modelled in part on the success of the NHS Direct service
which will provide help for consumers on a wide range
of consumer issues via a single telephone number.
The first phase of the new scheme will see four 'pathfinder'
regional centres being established. The South West is one
of the areas chosen to pilot the initiative and Cornwall has
been selected as the base for the region.
The initiative will see the Department of Trade & Industry
investing £8 million in its Cornwall headquarters, which
will offer help to people from 15 different local authority
areas. An initial 25 jobs will be created at Tolvaddon with
more to come over the following years, and many are expected
to be recruited locally.
Because the helpline will be staffed by advisers trained
in consumer rights and related issues, the posts will be well-paid,
high quality jobs that will give an important boost to the
local jobs market. CPR Regeneration will be working with JobCentre
Plus and Trading Standards to ensure that as many of the jobs
as possible go to local people.
David Brewer, who chairs the board of CPR Regeneration, said: "This news is the result of some excellent team work
and we're especially grateful to the South West Regional Development
Agency, the Objective One Partnership and Government Office
for the South West for their flexibility and imagination in
making this happen. Without our move from Tolvaddon to the
former CompAir site it is unlikely that Cornwall would have
been able to attract this lucrative DTi contract, which will
bring more investment and skilled new jobs to the Camborne
area. The move also puts us at the heart of one of our key
regeneration areas and will allow us to take a more hands-on
approach."
Jill Ferrett, County Council Executive Member responsible
for Cornwall Trading Standards, said: "Cornwall County
Council and its Trading Standards Service are delighted with
the support received from colleagues across the South West
to set up this call centre on their behalf. Our Trading Standards
Service leads the way in using call centre technology to deliver
its advice services, and when 'Consumer Direct' goes live
later this year it will deliver much better facilities and
resources to help local consumers. We are very grateful for
the support of CPR Regeneration with this initiative."
