Investment provided to upgrade Falmouth fishing vessel

Two Falmouth fishermen have been given Objective One Fisheries investment of nearly £8,000 to help improve the quality of their fish.

Barry Prynn and Jonathan Hamilton, owners of the "Britannia V" will use the investment to upgrade the refrigeration system, which cools the fishroom on board. The fish will be kept at a lower and more consistent temperature and therefore reach the market in top quality condition.

Barry Prynn said: "The quality of the fish is very much better when landed and the prices at the market have reflected this, making the installation of the unit well worthwhile. We are already beginning to wonder how we managed without this facility.”

Clare Leverton, Objective One Fisheries Programme Manager said: "The Fishing Industry Task Force recognises that the improvement of fish quality is a key part of reaching their overall goal to obtain maximum value for all the fish landed in Cornwall.”
