Lostwithiel Area Forum - Business Event

The economic arm of the Lostwithiel Area Forum, headed by Keith and Lindsay Southgate, staged a one-day Business Forum event in Lostwithiel Library on Tuesday, 25 May 2004 from 1500 to 2000hrs. Existing businesses and people considering starting a business were invited to attend; this gave access to a business information one-stop shop.

The event received sponsorship from Lloyds TSB and Lostwithiel Area Forum; Restormel Regeneration Partnership gave support with the coordination and setting up of the event.

Agencies were invited from across Cornwall including actnow, Cornwall College, Finance Cornwall, South West Investment Group, FSB, Mid Cornwall Enterprise Trust, Lloyds TSB, Inland Revenue, Taste of the West, Jobline Temporary Staffing Agency, Enterprise Edge, Lanhydrock Accountancy and Cornwall County Council's Trading Standards Department, who helped to make the event a resounding success.

Existing and prospective businesses from the Lostwithiel area came and sought advice on a number of issues, one local businessman said "It was a great event and so much information was under one roof. I hope that similar events could be held across Cornwall to help other small businesses like ourselves."

Keith and Lindsay Southgate of the Lostwithiel Area Forum added "We are so glad that the event gave local people access to information which is sometimes so difficult to source in one place. We are very pleased by the number of businesses from the Lostwithiel area who attended and are very grateful for the help and support Restormel Regeneration Partnership gave to organise the event. We also hope that the data we collected from the businesses will enable the Area Forum to work more closely to support local businesses in the future – watch this space."

Editor's notes:

Restormel Regeneration Partnership

• Restormel Regeneration Partnership was established in 2000, with the object of making Restormel '…a more prosperous and lively area.' by making maximum use of the opportunities for regeneration.

• Integrated Area Plans (IAPs) are the way in which Objective One can help communities. These are the plans that integrate the economic, social and environmental aspects of the Objective One programme into a framework for use in a specific area. There are eleven plans throughout Cornwall, three of which (St Austell Bay, China Clay Area, and Newquay & its Rural Hinterland) are covered by Restormel.

• The Integrated Area Plan team was established in February 2001 with investment from the Objective One European Regional Development Fund to deliver the three IAPs for Restormel. It can help with developing and supporting community based projects who wish to apply for Objective One investment.

• The RRP team is funded by Restormel Borough Council, Objective One European Regional Development Fund, the South West of England Regional Development Agency, Imerys, Cornwall County Council and Health Action Zone
