Cornish Company Launch UK's First Eucalyptus Oil Range at Hampton Court

After over 18 months of research and testing, a Cornish company is about to launch a new range of unique essential oils at Hampton Court Flower Show, one of the world's most prestigious flower shows.

Cornish Essential Oils was born out of the need for a group of Cornish foliage growers to diversify their farming practice – or face reducing incomes, as a result of cheaper imports. Tregothnan Estate and Fentongollan, two producers of Eucalyptus, Bay and other aromatic foliage, got their heads together to see if they could produce essential oils from their crops.

Investment from Objective One through Cornish Horticultural Enterprises ensured that trials could be carried out to test the quality of oils distilled from hand-cut foliage. The result is Cornish Essentials, a pure eucalyptus essential oil - unique because it is not only made purely from the freshest, youngest leaves grown in Cornwall but it is also the only eucalyptus oil to be produced in the UK.

Eucalyptus essential oil, until now only produced in Australia, China and Portugal, has a long history of use for decongestant and muscle relaxant properties. Aromatherapists also use the oil for diabetic patients.

In addition to producing a pure Eucalyptus Essential Oil, Cornish Essentials have blended a sweet almond massage oil with 1% essential oil, ready for smoothing into aching muscles. Alternatively the pure oil can be used in baths, in compresses to reduce temperature and for its antifungal and antibiotic properties. Other projects in the pipeline are a range of dried leaf products for use in food and drinks, such as soups and stews.

Visitors to the Hampton Court Flower Show can pick up a bottle or two to rub into aching legs and feet, after a long day at the show, as the new product will be on sale for the first time, throughout the event. Cornish Essentials can be found at Cornish grower's stand - Stand E51 – as part of the Tregothnan Estate display.

Later this summer, the range will also be available at the world renowned Eden Project.

Editor's notes:

• Cornish Essential Oil products are plucked from young, vibrant plants and dried or extracted for oil rapidly. The product is the result of extensive scientific and commercial development.

• Hundreds of hectares of Eucalyptus, Bay and other aromatic foliage is still grown for the UK cut flower industry but imports from other counties has led to a reduction in the price of stems, leading to a need for diversification.

• Launch products include a Pure Eucalyptus Essential Oil (10ml) and Sweet Almond Massage Oil with Eucalyptus (100ml).

• Cornish Essentials received funding from Cornish Horticultural Enterprises Ltd.
