The 2004 Cornwall Tourism Awards - winners announced!

This week the winners of the 2004 Cornwall Tourism Awards were announced at a prestigious dinner and awards ceremony, which was hosted by Sharron Davies, at the St Mellion Hotel, Golf and Country Club.

Now in their third year, the Cornwall Tourism Awards have become a major event in Cornwall's tourism calendar. This year more than 200 entries were received from across the industry and there were more than 500 public nominations from visitors and members of the public wishing to nominate their own particular favourite pub, hotel, campsite, b&b or restaurant.

Deborah Smith, Head of Marketing at the Cornwall Tourist Board, said: "With increasing worldwide competition and rising visitor expectations, it's fantastic to see so many of our businesses rewarded for their hard work and enthusiasm. Cornwall's tourist industry is facing many challenges. Investment in both the quality of service provided and the experience on offer is key to the Cornwall's future as a world class destination."

Sharron Davies, former international sportswoman and now a successful television personality, who presented these awards added: "I was delighted to be asked to present this year's Cornwall Tourism Awards. I have so many fond memories of Cornwall from family holidays and I am also only too aware of the spirit and determination which persists here. Two of our recent Olympic gold medal winners, Ed Coode and Ben Ainsley, are both from Cornwall and they say much about the drive and determination which prevails in Cornwall."
