New fund for women entrepreneurs
A new loan fund specifically for women entrepreneurs in Cornwall
has been launched by the South West Investment Group (SWIG).
The Cornwall Women Into Business Fund will provide loans
of £500 to £5,000 to new and early-stage businesses
owned by women in Cornwall that are unable to raise sufficient
finance from the banks and other sources.
To be considered for support, applicants must apply through
a recognized business adviser. Most types of business will
be considered.
The Fund has been developed in consultation with the Womens
Business Development Agency (WBDA), a national agency that
runs a development and mentoring scheme for women entrepreneurs
in Devon and Cornwall in conjunction with the local Enterprise
Agency network.
The new fund has also been welcomed by Truro College Business
Centre, managers of the successful Empower project which has
also received investment from Objective One and which provides
training and other tailored support to assist the development
and advancement of the female workforce in Cornwall.
The scheme is part-funded by the South West of England Regional
Development Agency. Whilst the fund will only be available
in Cornwall initially, the longer term plan is to extend it
across the South West region.
