Cornwall FWAG score their maiden century!
The Cornwall Farming and Wildlife Advisory Group (FWAG)
is celebrating the New Year with the 100th farm visit and over 23,000
acres of land advised on since the start of the Farm Environment Link
Project (FELP) in early 2004.
Ian and Helen Davey from Penquite, Trerulefoot welcomed
FWAG Adviser, Rosalie Goldsworthy onto their farm to benefit from the
advice from this Objective One invested project. This project aims to
show farmers where they can find cost-savings on their farm, whilst benefiting
the environment, with the advice often being backed up by a small capital
grant to help the farmer achieve maximum benefit.
Says Cornwall FWAG Projects Manager Jillie Dale: "This
is a fantastic opportunity for Cornish farmers to be ahead of the game
with the shift in emphasis away from production and more towards land
management. We have a highly qualified team of advisers in Cornwall who
can visit your farm, point out areas that may have been overlooked for
income-earning opportunities, and even provide soil and slurry sampling
and analysis. We are getting brilliant feed-back from those farmers that
have received a visit and would encourage any farmer in Cornwall to take
advantage of this scheme."
The FELP Project covers energy use; biodiversity; soils,
water and nutrient advice; with a full day dedicated to all aspects of
energy on the farm, from saving energy use to growing energy crops planned
for Friday, 25th February at the Members Pavilion, Royal Cornwall Showground,
Wadebridge, with Sir Ben Gill as key speaker.
