WOODLAND CONTRACTOR WINS A GRANT FROM OBJECTIVE ONE
A Bodmin-based woodland contracting business, has been awarded an Objective One grant by Working Woodlands to help with its need to invest in better equipment. The business concentrates on forestry contracting and woodland and landscape management. The company specialises in working on the many sites in Cornwall with difficult access, such as wet areas or under-thinned woodlands that would otherwise be economically or physically unworkable. The Working Woodlands grant has been used to help with the purchase of a compact forwarder and winch to complement the two compact tractors that are already in use. When used together, this equipment enables timber to be extracted from these sites with little or no damage to the environment. The business fills a valuable role in providing woodland management services for woodlands that are currently unmanaged. Their low impact approach brings greater efficiency to operations that were previously the domain of horse logging. This enterprise is one of the first to be awarded a grant from Working Woodlands. This European and UK government-funded Project is offering grants and support to businesses that grow wood, work with wood or sell wood or wood products in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.
