Sausage success for Crantock Bakery

Crantock Bakery are well known for their award winning Cornish pasties but their sausage rolls are also proving a huge success and, in order to satisfy demand, the company has just invested over £100,000 in a new, state-of-the-art, sausage roll machine.

Manufactured in Italy to a Swiss design, the new Rondo Doge machine is fully computerised and is the last word in top food production. It is capable of producing over 10,000 x 190 mm long sausage rolls an hour, a mind boggling 1.10 miles of sausage rolls every hour!

Matthew Hurry, Operations Director at Crantock Bakery explains: "We're well known for our claim of being Cornwall’s best, and in deciding to invest in this new equipment we're certainly supporting our reputation.

"This is the best equipment on the market and we are delighted to have obtained investment from Objective One to help us increase production. As well as making sausage rolls, this new equipment also has the ability to product pasties ready for hand crimping prior to fast freezing giving us added production facilities. Assistance from Objective One on a range of investments will help us create 25 new jobs, and seriously extend the production capacity at the Bakery.”

David Rodda, Senior Agricultural Co-ordinator on behalf of Objective One adds: "Added value food production is one of the emerging strengths within our Cornish economy and award winning companies like Crantock Bakery with a truly innovative approach to developing markets need investment to keep up with the demand for good quality food from Cornwall. Crantock are committed to using local suppliers wherever possible and creating new jobs, as well as consolidating their existing employment, is a direct benefit from this £100,000 investment.”

Support for the investment comes also from Mike Johnson, Managing Director of Rondo Doge, who says: "The market for baking equipment is now highly sophisticated and an important part of the investment needed to build good bakery business in this country.

"Crantock are developing new markets all the time and their growth is impressive; the new sausage roll machine replaces equipment that is now nearly 9 years old and will make a huge difference to the operations of Crantock Bakery. It's good to see such forward thinking emerging from one of Cornwall's leading food producers.”

In addition to the Objective One investment, finance was also provided by the Bank of Scotland, Corporate division. Nick Hoof, Associate Director of Asset Finance adds: "Across the country there is clear evidence that companies that invest in the best and most cost effective equipment are those that flourish. What is impressive about Crantock Bakery is that they are growing the business while remaining committed to retaining the people based skills like crimping in finishing their products. This means they are increasing production by investing in state of the art technologically advanced equipment, and increasing employment at the same time. Achievements like this are proof of the growing success of this excellent Cornish company and we are happy to invest in the best.”
