Cornwall Business Week Kick Started
with Business Relocation Figures
Cornwall Pure Business, the inward investment programme run
by Cornwall Enterprise, Cornwall's economic development division,
today kicks off the inaugural 'Cornwall Business Week' with
the announcement that since its launch in May 2004 it has
facilitated the relocation of 17 businesses to Cornwall, resulting
in the creation of more than 212 local jobs.
Cornwall Business Week encompasses a series of activities
highlighting the best of what Cornwall offers as a business
location and celebrating innovative businesses already in
Cornwall. Events include the Cornwall Business Week Networking
Forum, which takes place in London on 21st June. This event
will see business leaders from across the south east joining
Paul Myners, chairman of Marks & Spencer and Guardian
Media Group plc and other Cornish business leaders to discuss
the prospective implications for businesses relocating from
cities such as London to areas like Cornwall.
Strong growth has been achieved in a number of sectors in
Cornwall over recent years. These include advanced engineering,
life sciences, IT, media and the environmental technology
sectors. This has led to firms from outside Cornwall being
attracted to join rapidly developing business clusters in
Cornwall.
"The Cornish economy is starting to turn the corner.
EU Objective One funding is revitalising the county and business
relocations from outside of Cornwall over the last year have
added substantial value to the Cornish economy," said
Danielle Atkins, inward investment manager at Cornwall Pure
Business. "Innovative and dynamic companies operating
in sectors such as IT and biotech are being drawn to the county
by competitive business conditions and the beautiful environment.
Cornwall Business Week will celebrate the contribution they
are making to the growth of Cornwall's economy. Our aim through
Cornwall Business Week is to prompt more small and medium
sized companies to consider Cornwall as a viable business
location," added Atkins.
Cornwall Business Week is an initiative of Cornwall Pure
Business, a red carpet service with Objective One investment
designed to target and attract inward investment in key sectors
of Cornwall's economy. Other organisations involved include
actnow broadband and the Combined Universities of Cornwall,
both of whom are also Objective One investment projects.
