Reaction to qualification for EU investment post 2006
Carleen Kelemen, Director of the Objective One Partnership,
said: "This is great news for Cornwall and the Isles
of Scilly. The success of the Objective One Programme, which
runs until December 31 2006, is already in evidence in our
people, our new university provision, in buildings, in infrastructure
and in the 'buzz' that is coming from the region.
"With this next round of investment the people
of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly have the opportunity to
build on this success and continue the journey towards a long
term prosperous future. Objective One has begun the work by
refettling the structure of our economy. A further investment
programme presents a perfect chance to continue strengthening
the path towards a more knowledge-based economy nurturing
the region's key economic assets."
Andrew Mitchell, Cornwall County Council Economy Portfolio
Holder, said: "Confirmation of this new programme
means that we can get on with the work we need to do for Cornwall.
The successes of the Objective One Programme together with
the strategy being developed by the Cornwall Economic Forum
give us the direction to continue our journey to greater prosperity."
