GOOD NEWS FOR CORNISH THEATRE

Miracle Theatre Company and the Carrick Integrated Area Plan team are celebrating after receiving approval from Objective One for over £20,000 for the ‘Miracle Theatre Development Project'. The project will enable the employment of a full time Administrator and a part-time Artistic Director, for 18 months, as the Theatre Company builds itself up to begin receiving revenue funding next year as part of the Arts Council’s Theatre Review.

The funding will also cover the costs of setting up an office in Truro where the Administrator and Artistic Director will establish an administrative base and begin work on a three-year business plan. Both the business plan and administrative systems must be in place in order for the Arts Council funding to begin.

The project will also have many indirect, but extremely important, outcomes including doubling the amount of performances the Company will be able to provide for the community, supporting many SMEs and micro-businesses and safeguarding work for Miracle Theatre performers. In the long-term the Company will be playing their part in helping Cornwall's economy.

Bill Scott, newly appointed Artistic Director of Miracle Theatre, says: “This is fantastic news. Over the last 20 years the company has established itself as a driving force for theatre in Cornwall. We can now take a huge and important step forward: this award from Objective One means that at last we can set up a proper administrative structure that will enable us to make maximum use of our long-awaited revenue funding that is due to come on line from the Arts Council in 2003. Miracle is set to become a focal point for a large number of local artists, musicians, set builders, technicians, writers and performers. We are very grateful to the Carrick IAP Team, who are working so hard to get Objective One money into the area.”

The project, which costs almost £50,000 in total, is funded by Objective One’s European Regional Development Fund, South West Arts, the Arts Council, Cornwall County Council, Restormel Borough Council and North Cornwall District Council.

The project is the sixth successful Objective One project for the Carrick IAP Team who are responsible for working closely with the private, public and voluntary sector to develop successful Objective One projects which will regenerate the local area.
