Work begins on Hayle Business Space
Work
has started to provide much needed workspace and create more
than 60 jobs in the far west of Cornwall.
The Hayle Business Space project is worth more than £1.3million
and will receive just under £471,000 of investment from
the Objective One European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
When complete it will provide three to four industrial units
totalling 1,952 square metres at Hayle Industrial Park, which
is just off the Loggans Roundabout to the east of Hayle. It
is estimated that contractors, Concrete Contactors Ltd, will
finish the build in October this year (2006) and that 64 jobs
will be created and 32 safeguarded when businesses move onto
the site.
Carleen Kelemen, Director of the Objective One Partnership,
said: "Quality workspace is key to supporting business
success across Cornwall. We have done much to improve the
provision of workspace investing over £26 million into
£75 million of workspace projects. It is essential that
the public and private sectors work together to create high
quality workspace to keep up with the ever increasing demand
from new and expanding businesses."
Environmental features will include double skin insulation
in the walls and roof, triple glazed roof lights, grey water
collection and short flush toilets. A green travel plan will
also be drawn up by the developer, Construction and Real Estate
Properties Ltd, to try to promote environmentally friendly
methods of transport such as cycling and car sharing. As part
of this bicycle storage facilities and showers will be available
for each unit.
David Smithies, of Construction and Real Estate Properties
Limited, said: "We are pleased to be undertaking this
speculative private sector property development in Hayle and
to have secured the Objective One grant funding which has
enabled the project to happen."
The building design and project management, including securing
the Objective One investment, was undertaken by Truro based
Business Location Services Ltd.
Penwith District Council's Regeneration Officer for Hayle,
Caroline Sargent, said: "There are waiting lists for business
space throughout Penwith. There will be strong demand for
these quality units, enabling local employers to expand and
others to locate in this increasingly significant area for
business investment."
