Tap Routes
BTCV, The National Trust, Cornwall Wildlife Trust, The Silvanus
Trust, Mid Cornwall Eco Centre, DMT Business Services and
English Nature have once again come together to work as the
Tap Routes partnership. Funded by the Objective
One European Social Fund, the project aims to enhance
individual skills through environmental work. The project
is also working with Connexions and Helston School helping
to encourage young people disengaged from the national curriculum
undertake work experience and accredited training. Those that
wish to take part can receive funding for training, childcare,
and travel as part of a training programme tailored specifically
to their needs. There are also people on hand to help and
support them through the project.
Similar ESF funded projects have helped many people gain
valuable experience and training for employment. For instance,
David Binks volunteered with the Cornwall Wildlife Trust from
May 2001 until October 2002. During this time he helped carry
out practical work on various reserves while learning about
management of woodland, wetland, and heathland. He received
training in first aid, chainsaw and pesticide use as well
as many other ecological and practical skills courses through
the Tap Routes Programme He also completed an NVQ LII in Environmental
Conservation and is now employed by the Lost Gardens of Heligan.
Darren Neville the project manager for Tap Routes said: This
programme provides a valuable opportunity for those people
trying to find employment and also helps to benefit the local
environment.
