Popularity of University College Falmouth's underwater photography weekend course shows no sign of sinking

Bookings for University College Falmouth's exclusive 3-day underwater photography course are soaring as more and more applicants take the plunge. And it is hardly surprising as University College Falmouth is one of only two higher education institutions in the country to run a BA (Hons) Photography course with an underwater option – and the only one to be situated in a location that enjoys such marine diversity.

The 3-day short course is open to certified divers who have reached PADI Advanced Open Water level or equivalent and possess a basic knowledge of underwater photography. For the accessible price of £250, participants will be offered the chance to work with top-of-the-range digital underwater photography equipment; to learn how to take underwater images professionally and competitively; and to develop them using the latest image manipulation software.

The short course is being run by University College Falmouth's BA (Hons) Photography lecturer, Tony Sutton. Tony is a professional underwater photographer and journalist with articles published in national newspapers and magazines including The Times, The Guardian, BBC Wildlife Magazine and he is also a regular contributor to Cornwall Today. Tony is a former Secretary of the British Society of Underwater Photographers and a founder member of the Cornish Society of Underwater Photographers.

Cornwall's beautiful waters will be the location for the 3-day course, famous for their diverse marine life and underwater visibility that often exceeds 10m. Participants on the course will also benefit from taking photographs in Falmouth Bay, which is protected under National and European law as one of Europe's top marine sites.

Photographers from all over the world have recently flocked to Cornwall after several Basking Sharks were spotted in several locations across Cornwall, including in Falmouth's estuary off St Mawes Castle.

Falmouth Bay is also famous for the Manacles Reef which boasts underwater cliffs and pinnacles, shipwrecks, seagrass meadows and beds of pink calcified seaweed – Cornwall's very own coral reef – all of which participants on the underwater photography course will be able to explore.

Bespoke courses can also be arranged for groups on alternative dates. For example the College has recently delivered a course designed to update the skills of a team of police divers.
