Got an enquiring mind?
You start the term by dusting for prints at a crime scene,
before analysing the results back at the laboratory and then
present your findings at the end of term in a simulated courtroom.
OK, this all happens in a college crime scene house, but it
seems real enough as you draw together the evidence and identify
the suspect. It's just another day in the life of a
Cornwall College Forensic Science degree student.
Derek Callon, course manager of the new degree and former
senior police officer with the Devon & Cornwall Constabulary
said, "We are proud to be able to introduce this
new foundation degree in Forensic Science at our Camborne
campus. For the first time, there is a practical, degree-level
qualification available in Cornwall that can lead to a career
in crime scene investigation, forensic science or environmental
forensics, forensic psychology, law enforcement and other
science based occupations. Our students will practise the
latest forensic techniques, study criminal behaviour and solve
crimes."
"This is a great addition to our degree provision,"
added John Latham, CEO and Principal of Cornwall College.
"With the additional investment from the CUC (Combined
Universities in Cornwall) we've been able to develop
a number of new university courses. The latest applications
data from UCAS (Universities and Colleges Admissions Service)
shows Cornwall has never been so popular with undergraduates,
so we look forward to welcoming our new intake in September."

Editor's notes:
Foundation degrees offer the solution to the 'work
or study' dilemma, by providing a degree qualification
in a practical, industry focused manner, delivered in a way
that suits the needs of the working professional. They are
equivalent to an HND and can be converted to the full honours
degree with a further year's study.
Cornwall College is a partner college of the University of
Plymouth, part of the Combined Universities in Cornwall initiative
and offers over 100 university courses both full and part-time.
Cornwall College has 8 sites across Cornwall and offers the
widest range of high quality academic and vocational training.
Cornwall College is the only college in the South West to
hold 4 'Centre of Vocational Excellence Awards':
Centre of Vocational Excellence – Tourism, Customer
Care

Centre of Vocational Excellence – Marine Engineering
& Technology
Centre of Vocational Excellence – Food & Drink Technology
