Outstanding success for business graduates

Cornwall College is celebrating the success of degree students with the best ever results. 91% of those graduating from the BA (Hons) Business Administration degree, which is offered at the College's business school near Camborne, achieved either first class or upper seconds.

"We have a strong track record of success for this course," said Mike Trenerry, Programme Manager for the Degree, "but this year has exceeded all our expectations; the students have done exceptionally well. Last year's results were superb with 78% achieving firsts or upper seconds, but this year's are even better."

Students receiving first class degrees include mature student Helen Le Marechal from Newquay. Helen left school with GCSEs and went straight into employment in the hotel sector before returning to education when she was in her mid-20s.

"I thought it may be too much going straight into the degree, so with the help of Newquay Adult Learning I completed an A-level in Business Studies in one year, before enrolling with Cornwall College," explains Helen. "I loved studying the degree, and although it was hard work, I made some great friends who I'm still in touch with. The course was really enjoyable, particularly the marketing and law modules, which I'm hoping to put into practice when I secure my graduate job."

Other successful students graduating include Jonathan Tozer from St Columb, who has been awarded an upper second class honours degree. Jonathan completed the Business Foundation Degree with Cornwall College last year, when he was awarded Student of the Year for his commitment and performance, before progressing to the one-year degree.

"These excellent results are a testament to the quality of the teaching, the staff and the students," said John Latham, CEO and Principal of Cornwall College. "We know from contact with our graduates that a university education with Cornwall College is a valuable commodity, so I wish them all well for a successful and happy future."

Hundreds of graduates from all of Cornwall College's university courses, which are validated by the University of Plymouth, will collect their degrees at a full cap and gown ceremony at Truro Cathedral in November.
