NEW COMMUNITY FACILITY AT PENBEAGLE

Cornwall Neighbourhoods for Change (CN4C) , a Penwith Pathways to Employment project funded by Objective One, has been able to secure funding to provide a new community facility in St Ives. The building at Unit 7B, Penbeagle Industrial Estate, will provide a permanent base for two St Ives Residents’ Associations – P-Cane and Ayr Residents – alongside Penwith Pathways to Employment and the St Ives Reminiscence Project.

The building is part of a new workshop development, and will cost over £7000 to convert. £5000 of this funding has come from the Neighbourhood Renewal Fund through the West Cornwall Community Chest, and the remainder will be provided by CN4C. There will be office space upstairs and a community room on the ground floor, and it is hoped that the premises will be ready for occupation next summer.

Tarn Lamb, community development manager for Cornwall Neighbourhoods for Change explained: “This is a great example of the way in which CN4C can make a real difference to communities – working with local initiatives to give everyone a better deal. The new building will bring the residents’ associations out of people’s living rooms and into a proper community setting.”

Cornwall Neighbourhoods for Change is a tenant led community development organisation, which works with, and for, social housing tenants and residents to ensure the voice of Cornwall’s disadvantaged neighbourhoods is heard. Working at a local level with residents and multi-agency teams to develop local solutions to local problems, CN4C aims to make a real and lasting difference in the battle against poverty and exclusion.
