Woodland contractor wins grant from
Objective One
East Cornwall Forestry, a Launceston-based woodland contracting
business, has been awarded an Objective One grant by Working
Woodlands to help with its need to invest in new equipment.
Run by Roger Bloye, the business provides services that include
timber harvesting, tree surgery and estate maintenance. This
work is seasonal with most of the work undertaken in woodland
done during autumn and winter. Spring and summer are taken
up with pesticide spraying and estate maintenance.
Roger now plans to expand his operation to include the care
of young woodland plantations. The Working Woodlands grant
has been used to help with the purchase of new tools and a
tractor-mounted winch.
East Cornwall Forestry fills a valuable role in providing
woodland management services for woodlands that are currently
unmanaged. Once managed properly these woodlands can make
a long-term contribution to Cornwalls rural economy.
This enterprise is one of the first to be awarded a grant
from Working Woodlands. This European and UK government-funded
Project is offering grants and support to businesses that
grow wood, work with wood or sell wood or wood products in
Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.
