Cornwall joins the graduate 'Milk Round'
Cornwall's first ever graduate Careers Fair takes place
on November 8th at the Tremough campus in Penryn. More than
40 exhibitors have grasped the opportunity to meet recent
and future graduates from the nine universities and colleges
which make up the Combined Universities in Cornwall (CUC)
partnership.
Well-known national organisations such as the BBC, PricewaterhouseCoopers
and Reuters will be exhibiting alongside specialist local
employers like Truro-based Gasworld, Trac Services from Camborne
and Cornwall and Devon Media (publishers of the Western Morning
News, Cornish Guardian, West Briton and Cornishman newspapers).
The event is also being supported by the highly successful
Unlocking Cornish Potential scheme and representatives will
be attending to give information regarding graduate placement
opportunities.
Jon Christie, Senior Careers Adviser at the Tremough campus,
said: "We would encourage all students and graduates
to visit the Fair. Whether they're planning to seek
employment, starting their own business, moving onto postgraduate
study or taking a year out, there will be exhibitors there
that they should be talking to."
As a Combined Universities in Cornwall event, the Careers
Fair is open to all higher education students and graduates,
including those from Cornwall College, Truro College and all
other CUC partner universities and colleges including the
University of Plymouth, as well as the 2,500+ University of
Exeter and University College Falmouth students who share
the Tremough campus.
Nigel Hewitt, Acting CUC Coordinator commented: "This
careers fair is tremendously important for CUC and for Cornwall
as a whole. From the outset we have sought to use the investment
provided by Objective One and the UK Government not only to
create opportunities for people to study in Cornwall, but
also to help graduates and businesses to come together to
support the growth of the region's economy."
Potential visitors are urged to visit the Careers Fair website:
www.cuc.ac.uk/careers.
Truro College will be running dedicated buses to and from
Tremough on the day. A free park and ride scheme is also being
offered from Ponsharden in Falmouth.

Editor's notes:
The Combined Universities in Cornwall is a dynamic and visionary
partnership that is one of the driving forces behind Cornwall's
renaissance. This partnership combines the Universities of
Exeter and Plymouth, University College Falmouth, The Open
University, The College of St Mark & St John, and the
Peninsula Medical School, with Cornwall's Further Education
colleges - Cornwall College, Truro College and Penwith College.
It aims not only to provide the students of the future with
more choice and greater opportunities, but also to boost the
economic fortunes of the region for the benefit of one and
all.
The CUC initiative has been invested in by the Objective
One Partnership for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, the
South West Regional Development Agency, Cornwall County Council
and the Higher Education Funding Council for England.
