New build at Cornwall College Newquay opens
First year students at Cornwall College Newquay are settling
in well as the new Centre for Wildlife Education opened its
doors for this year's intake on three different Foundation
Degrees: Zoological Conservation, Marine Aquaculture and the
brand new Wildlife Education and Media course.
The new 800m² teaching block forms part of a £1.3
million project that houses new student facilities, a learning
centre and lecture theatre funded by the Combined Universities
in Cornwall initiative.
Andrew Smart, Head of Cornwall College Newquay, commented:
"Once more we have seen an increase in the number of students
taking up Foundation Degrees at Cornwall College Newquay.
Our new Wildlife Education and Media course has recruited
well and we're currently promoting a part-time flexible route
on this course. The Marine Aquaculture Foundation Degree and
the consistently popular Zoological Conservation course have
both exceeded expectations too. All of our courses at Newquay
are approved by the University of Plymouth."
Many of the students are now taking up work placements at
the College's partners, Newquay Zoo and the Blue Reef Aquarium.
As the year progresses, some students will also spend time
at the National Lobster Hatchery in Padstow.
John Latham, Principal and CEO of Cornwall College, commented,
"Newquay is a thriving campus which benefits from the
close links it has formed with industry, especially with Newquay
Zoo and Blue Reef Aquarium. These links are vital in order
to give our students the work placements they need to bring
their courses to life. This 'hands on' experience may also
give them an edge over other candidates, when they start looking
for work. Cornwall College Newquay is a great place to study;
staff work hard to ensure the College is a friendly place
to study."
